Since then, they have grown to love the experience of playing each other's songs and sharing that love and those songs with an audience. Gary and Jody played their first public show as a duo to a warmly-packed house at Steynberg Gallery in 2010. Despite… Show more the distance between their respective domiciles, they regularly exchange ideas, musical and otherwise. And they want to share some of those ideas with you.Gary Garrett has a writer's bio -- you know, the crazy one on the dust jacket that tells you the guy couldn't hold a job -- or couldn't stand to be away from creative work for very long. He has been a vagabond minstrel, disk jockey, construction worker, book salesman, sculptor, waiter, cook, professional Christmas caroler, design engineer, leader of a rock 'n' roll band. He delivered singing telegrams in a chicken suit, sang the anthem at a Seattle Sonics game, and was chief engineer at L.R. Baggs on the Central Coast from 1994 to 2005, designing electronics, mostly for guitars. But lately he's been fully immersed in creating music.Brendan Getzell of the Hotel Utah in San Francisco describes Gary like this: "You can't not love Gary's music: It just won't allow that to happen. He plays mostly in the realm of accessible bluesy folk-pop, but the main thing about his songs is their timelessness. Gary tactfully melds the sincere and the sly, almost like a snarky James Taylor."Jody Mulgrew was raised in (and can often be found) a tiny town about 100 miles up the California coast from Santa Barbara. After studying Vocal Jazz and Classical Voice and touring the U.S. and Europe with award-winning vocal ensembles, he formed old-time-americana outfit The Johnny Starlings with friend and collaborator Yohei Shikano. The group released an album "Aiming Too High"? and an E.P. "Be My Baby Bright"? and had an unreleased song "Slow-dance"? featured on A Prairie Home Companion as sung by Inga Swearingen, before disbanding. His debut solo album, Rocket Ship was released September 1st, 2011. Wasting little time, "Rocket Ship"? won "Best Album"? at the New Times Music Awards in October of 2011, and his song "I Will Not Fall in Love with you Again,"? was awarded First Place in the Durango Songwriters Expo "Write with a Hit-Maker"? Songwriting Contest in March of 2012. In June, Jody was awarded the Abe Olman Award for Excellence in Songwriting by the Songwriters Hall of Fame.In his spare time, you can find Jody fondling figuoas at the local farmer's market.
