An American who answered Dvořák's challenge to find a national style was William Grant Still, an African-American active in the Harlem Renaissance. His Symphony No. 1, "Afro-American," brings the blues into the concert hall. This audacious marriage of America’s great blues tradition and the pinnacle of European instrumental art music is not to be missed! It will also feature the winners of our annual student solo competition!
